Camp Leaders In Training

COMMUNITY ~ LEADERSHIP ~ ATTITUDE ~ INTEGRITY ~ DEVELOPMENT

Welcome!! We are very excited and pleased to have you on board and interested in working for Old Orchard Farm this summer! As employees of OOF’s summer camp you’re going to play a large role in making this year one of the most fun and memorable years of camp yet. We have run a popular and fun camp for nearly 20 years and are looking to make changes and improvements in a few areas to keep the tradition living on.

You may have already noticed the values community, leadership, attitude, integrity and development throughout the farm and camp information. These are five values which have been chosen with great consideration as core values to OOF and camp. With your help these values will become central to OOF and anyone who comes to OOF including campers, parents, and visitors. As employees of OOF everyone will be expected to model these values and portray their true meaning. Together we will come to understand them and even develop more during our training days.

Why we chose the values we did?

COMMUNITY

As you probably know OOF is a very special and unique facility that focuses on more than just the equestrian side of things. It is a place where community is developed and emphasized as an important part of the farm. Linda and George have been very welcoming and open to developing more than just a riding facility by allowing people to really become essential members of the overall OOF community. As camp employees you will be a part of this wonderful community, as well as your job to make campers feel a sense of community.

ATTITUDE

Attitude is of great importance when working on a team and around animals and children. Having a good attitude as an OOF employee will be essential to making this year of camp the best year yet. Your attitude will play a large role in the experience of the campers and fellow team mates. Helping each other as employees to look on the bright side will aid in the development of a strong and fun camp community!

LEADERSHIP

Leadership is an important characteristic that may not always be obvious at a first glance. Over the years OOF has created many setting which students and employees have been able to develop their leadership skills through teaching lessons, working as a working student, being a CIT, helping set up shows or other events. OOF’s varying opportunities for leadership development has lead many OOFer’s to great jobs and experiences such as running and managing high end show barns out west, becoming a teacher as well as teaching abroad, acting as the team Captain for an OUEA team, running and working at large scale horse show events etc. As a camp employee your leadership skills will be something you will either begin to develop or continue to develop through training and reflection, allowing you to carry forth these skills into other areas of your life down the road from now.

DEVELOPMENT

Although your leadership skills and development will be of great importance, as a leader you will also play an essential role in the development of others. Working on a team of employees you will have the opportunity to learn from them as well as develop them through reflection and training activities. Further you will have the opportunity to develop many campers as you work closely with them on a daily basis. Development of the campers will occur through riding lessons, horsemanship lessons, games and crafts etc. As an older more experienced rider and leader you will act as a role model to campers and teammates around you.

INTEGRITY

Lastly, integrity (believing in and following through with those beliefs) will be important to the rest of the values outlined above. Believing in and portraying these values will be essential to having a great year of camp. Following through with these values as well as what you say and believe in will be important to keeping a great team attitude. Integrity for the most part will mean sticking to what you have committed yourself to and believing in the merit and importance of your role as an OOF employee.

We thank you so much for your interest and commitment to camp this year. We look forward to getting started and making it a fun year for everyone involved. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
